Thank you for your interest in having your wedding here at May Valley Alliance Church. It is our desire to contribute in every way possible to the success of the marital relationship. Therefore, there are several requirements that need to be complied with in order to be married here at May Valley Alliance Church.
First, we cannot marry a Christian to a non-Christian. God prohibits, in II Corinthians 6, a union between one who has surrendered his/her life to Christ as Lord and Saviour and one who has not. If you are not clear on what we mean by "Christian," I would be delighted to talk with you about this or ask my secretary for a copy of the booklet, "Coming to Faith in Christ."
Second, if either party has been previously married and divorced, this poses complications that we must discuss before we can consider your application.
Third, we require completion of our pre-marital counseling sessions taken as a couple. There are required outside studies and projects that we expect you both to complete. The cost is $30/couple, which includes the textbook, other materials, and the Taylor-Johnson Temperment Analysis. A tentative wedding date will be considered at the initial interview. After these requirements have been met, we will then clear a date for your wedding.
We recognize that there are many churches that do not approach marriage with such demands as these. This, however, seems quite representative of our culture in general. Low-level expectations toward marriage --- as a covenant to be kept and worked at --- is directly responsible for the rapidly-rising rate of divorce in our society today.
